Puts on weight with aeration and finishes with resonating smoke and jammy dark fruit notes." Steven Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, August 2011 TASTING NOTES
The wine shows incredible intensity in the aromatics with a slightly lifted tone. Deep rich cassis, blackberry, cherry, anise, leather, cocoa and exotic spices of the Mediterranean can all be found in the complexity of the nose. The mouth shows a fullness that entices you to ponder the layers. Excellent in balance of alcohol and acidity, this is not a Pinot for the faint of heart. It will pair well against dishes of richness as well as red meat that would often call out for a fuller bodied big red. PRODUCTION NOTES Production: 85 cases of 750 mL bottles Specs: 13.5% Alcohol, 3.62 pH, 20% New French Oak Harvested: September 2009 WINEMAKER NOTES The "Prospector's Reserve", named in honor of the Miner whose legend provides the name for our estate, is a limited bottling of a four barrel blend. The barrels chosen for this blend were selected because of some unique quality they exhibited that made them stand out above and beyond the rest of the barrels in the cellar. There is one barrel of each of the four main clones from the oldest part of the vineyard. Equal parts Pommard, Wadenswil, Dijon 777 and Dijon 114. |
